Confused to Clarity to Comprehension to Comfort to Confident - Fino's Five

here is an email I recieved from Fino - which had some real useful info so thought of sharing with you with Fino's permission. Fino's email is below

I have something I use in my workshops. I teach workshops for customers that are unemployed ... plus I do 1:1 sessions with my customers ... helping them with their resumes, counseling them, and identifying job referrals for them.

Years ago ... I used to teach computer classes at a business college. We had students that would eventually graduate ... after a 6 month program and sometimes after a 9 month program.

I made up something I call:

Fino's Five C's

- Confused
- Clarity
- Comprehension
- Comfort
- Confident

Every week my students would go through Fino's Five C's. Monday ... we'd cover some "totally new material" ... whether in WordPerfect or Lotus 123 or classes like that. Keep in mind ... this was back in 1993 and 1994.

My students would be "totally confused" on Monday as we discussed lots of new topics, etc. By Tuesday after doing some homework on Monday evening ... thinks would look ... "a little bit clearer" ... and the smoke ... would start to clear somewhat ... so to speak.

By Wednesday ... as we were discussing new material ... the students would start to knod their heads ... because by now ... the material was actually starting to make some sort of sense to them ... and they were actually starting to "comprehend" the material.

By Thursday ... I would give my students a quiz. They would take the quiz ... and then work on some more homework ... while I graded everyone's quizes. At the end of class ... we would go over their quizzes ... and use the review ... for prepping for their "test on Friday". My students would go home and study on Thursday evenings.

On Friday ... I would always give a "test". Invariably ... all of my students would ace the test and usually get 95's and 100's on their tests. The would now be totally "confident" on the same material that they found totally "confusing" on the previous Monday.

The following Monday ... they'd be right back in "Confused" mode when we'd take up some totally new material. After a while ... my students ... got comfortable with the fact that they were going to be "confused" on Mondays .... because they knew that by Friday ... they would be in Confident mode.

Here's the cool thing about Fino's Five C's ...

All these years later ... I am still using "Fino's Five C's". I use them now when teaching workshops to our unemployed customers. I let them know that they are going to be "confused" ... when they first come into our centers ... looking for work.

Literally by the end of the week ... after coming to our workshops ... and spending time in our centers ... we will have moved them from 'confused" to "confident" ... and soon they will be getting a new job ... & moving on with their lives and careers.

Fino's Five C's ... helps them "be okay" with the fact that they will be "confused" at first ... but let's them know ... they will get to "confident" ... if they just plug into the system and "allow things to happen" for them.

I've also shown them ... that when they interview for a job & get the job ... as soon as they start their new job ... they will be back to the first "C" in Fino's Five C's ... but "it's okay" ... because it's just a matter of time ... before they will work there way back to the final "C" ... "Confident" ... ;-)

I've had many past students of mine tell me ... "Fino, if it hadn't been for Fino's Five C's ... I may never have graduated" ... ;-)

Yes its not just about Career its about Life advice too meaning it includes enough personal advices related to non technical stuff just like some of my previous emails.

what i intended to say by mentioning above email headlines -- I have a lot of helpful career,life,success advice to share & chances are NO one else shares them with you.

I've learnt this the hardway - people in IT(Software domain) DO NOT share . A lot of IT guys/girls are so scared to tell you anything - they wont give away the best lessons they've learnt from their experience & their mistakes. If you dont believe me check out all your IT friends just ask them - "Can u share few tips to succeed in a IT career" & see their response. I bet you'll hardly get anyone who can even give you a couple of decent tips. If you get anyone you are really lucky.

I'm writing from experiences of friends since I dont want to reveal my personal identity - I like to remain anonymous, I like to keep my identity secret - so I will be mixing lots of real incidents,stories,experiences of friends with my own experiences. Anyone reading the story even if he knows me personally can not trace it back to me - I will be writing like that. Since when Im sharing personal advice including lessons learnt from personal,career failures its not cool to say that I've failed. Sometimes its embarrassing just to even write about these mistakes & their consequences in my own & my friend's lives .

So this book is invaluable for those who take time & who learn,implement lessons from what they learn.

Strange experience I want to share here.I got an email & then I got on a gmail/gtalk chat with a person who emailed me to know more about my storage training.I took sometime to explain him about my Storage training, I also told him about my Vmware virtualization training. We discussed tech stuff for quite sometime. He was an experienced Software professional but unfortunately out of job and was on the look for a job.

Since I felt like helping him with a bit of my time. He said he saved more time by knowing nuggets from my experience than reading big reference books.(I suggest you read as many big reference books on the topic of your interest- blogs are just blogs they are no way as good as reference books).

But my point is - People make miracles happen. Its not the technology.

So if you are seriously looking for job instead of avoiding reaching out to people and finding an excuse like you are already posting to all job sites(technology) - Go out network(meet and talk) with people. Tell them your situation or explain them what you are looking for in a job. Meet the headhunters or talk to them on phone (DOnt just text chat - Talk on Phone or Meet in person if possible) .

Its People - Not Technology which can make miracles happen in many Job seekers' lives.

So dont be a tech rut. Dont say you've done everything you can to find job sooner. You've not done enough. You've not done anything near enough until you reach out to more people. Whether they give you a positive response or not - reach out to People and you soon may find Miracles happening in your own life too.

Why People Fail to get job & Why People keep making the mistakes which avoids them from getting Job

People are a frustrated when they are unemployed. When they are struggling to get a job They loose rational,logical thinking. What most do is follow the same routine which thousands or million other competing job seekers are doing.

Everyone does the same mistake of just uploading some crap resume to 100s of job sites. What people think is they can compensate quantity over quality. They spend all time to forward resumes & hardly work on effective networking with individuals who can help them get Interviews or even Job in some cases.

People are dumb I was dumb I did same mistakes which Im talking about all over here. I made a huge mistake of avoiding job opportunities for myself for too long. Just like all others I hated improvising, I hated optimisation since it was hard work since it was brainy work. I was ready to sit & keep applying to 100s or 1000s of Job postings on Job sites rather than using the same time to make small but effective changes in my resume, in my approach towards the hiring process, in my approach to reaching out to people in my domain, my target companies.

I was the most screwedup shy shitty guy. Since I crumbled with the thoughts of talking to people asking them favours to forward my resume or asking them to refer me for any of their company openings. I really hated asking people favours but I had no choice I saw the reality I saw that I cant make progress until I talk to people, network with people still I was shy for a long long time - Thats the biggest mistake I made & many Jobseekers keep making. I dont know you want to call it a looser's attitude or whatever its just that we are NOT comfortable to socialise we are NOT comfortable to ask favors. We hate to beg others to help us get job - BUT thats the most logical thing to do.

Alas it takes so much time & so much painful experiences before we come out of our shell to take those dreaded steps & do the right thing.

Talk to the ones who can help you get job soon - There is no better way

People help People Get job.

Its not the Job sites Its not your Soft copy of Resume

Its People who help Other People get job. So try to overcome your introvert attitude & be a little more people person everyday.Push yourself to go & talk to people, since its people who interview you & decide to give you that job offer.

Interview Questions in Storage technology area are not that easy to predict

It does not help if you just prepare for a set of interview questions. Specifically in a technology domain like Storage or even Virtualization you need to have strong foundation. You should have got hands on experience. Also you should have spent time to learn many things which can be termed as advance technical skill. Some people just collect interview questions & start attending interviews JUST on the basis of those questions. Its worse. True some questions may repeat. But more than depending on few qustions why not spend some solid hours,days, months if time is available to perfect what you are working on.

I've seen people coming from real experience background in storage not able to clearly explain some of the basics. I've also seen people in FC segment not being aware of anything from iSCSI or FCOE areas. Also many people have forgotten the good old Clariion they just know latest stuff & latest CAS etc.

I would always encourage you to prepare seriously for your storage interviews. Having few questions as refence is fine but in Storage any topic you take can become an interview question. So stop searching for interview questions since I know you came here searching for that in Google. Google thankfully lists this website in Top 1 position for "storage interview questions". I've been forced by some of the blog readers to post more interview questions. So before I do that I just want you to start reading "Storage Complete Reference" by Tata McGraw hill. Also get as much handson experience as possible as there is no replacement for that.

Many Storage job interviewer ask one or other question about Luns, Lun management, Lun secure,Lun relocation, Lun replication. But the below one is the most frequently asked question in any storage technology interview. So better you get the basics right.

Interview question: What is Lun Mapping,Lun Masking,Persistent Binding,Fabric Zoning.All these are with respect to a FC SAN array. (Fibre Channel Storage Area Network Array)

LUN Mapping:
LUN Mapping is host-centric method of storage LUN visibility management. LUN Mapping selectively allows a system administrator to scan for specified SCSI targets and LUNs at storage-driver boot time and to ignore selectively non-specified SCSI targets and LUNs.

The advantage of LUN Mapping is that it provides a level of security management in SANs where LUN Masking is not an option, perhaps because it is not supported
on the storage hardware.

The disadvantage is that LUN Mapping is configured and enabled on a host-by-host basis. It requires good coordination among the administrators of the systems sharing the storage, which ensures that only one host sees certain storage unless planned, as in a clustered server configuration.

LUN Masking:
LUN Masking is RAID storage subsystem-centric method of LUN visibility management to
hosts or servers.

LUN Masking makes sure that each RAID controller is configured to allow each host to see only a subset of the actual LUN's & hide all other LUNs from it. so all connected hosts will see only those LUNs that are assigned to them.

The advantage of LUN Masking is easy to implement in storage subsystems and no changes needed in Hosts or servers that are connected to them.
The disadvantage is multi-vendor devices might be present in the real SAN networks & not all the vendors implemented in same way.

Persistent Binding:
It is another host-centric method. This can be implemented in Operating systems (OS) by assigning specific SCSI-Target IDs to the Storage LUNs.

Fabric Zoning:
It is Network-centric method & basically Switch (or Fabric) present in the SAN networks have the capability to allow grouping of Ports from Storage Sub-systems to Connected Hosts in the form of Zoning.
The disadvantage is that Fabric zoning cannot mask individual LUNs that sit behind a port. All hosts connected to the same port will see all the LUNs addressed through that port.

NOTE:
Each of these Host-centric, Storage centric & switch-centric methods provide their own benifits & drawbacks. Usually to provide very good solution, combination of any two methods will be implemented in real SAN networks.

I was waiting from a long time to hear news like this.
Yes Companies have started hiring again. Joining the hiring trend are companies starting from Dell,Sun Microsystems,IBM,HP,NetApp,EMC2,Vmware,Cisco,Brocade.

Thats like message from heaven for many of the people who've been struggling just to get their resumes shortlisted. Yes I understand a lot of people's situation. They've been applying like hell but the response was not at all there.I just was getting many emails saying they are not getting interview schedules. They are not being called for any interviews. There was a lot of frustration growing among people who were in a stable domain like Storage technology.

But things are starting to brighten up now.

I'm getting more emails now saying their resume has been shortlisted,they are getting interview schedules, also I got 2 emails saying they got their offer letters & joining in next 15 days. Thats like the best news I've heard from people who read this blog over a long time. Im glad you guys made it. Help others too.

Just to keep you all updated openings are coming up but NOT in large numbers, its appearning more like strategic hirings or replacement hiring. But still atleast people are getting jobs thats what matters to me.

EMC,NetApp,IBM all these companies were in news sometime back for massive layoffs. Yes even 100 people being laid off I call as massive. I hate Layoffs as much as you do. But this post is not about layoffs. I've also got news that all these companies are hiring for Storage technology openings. There are openings for Storage administrators, Storage Architects, Storage consultants, Storage support engineers.

As per my source the hiring is mainly for experienced pros with more than 3 years experience in this core field. Atleast there is some good news so I thought of sharing with you all.

1. Which companies are hiring now. What kind of openings are there.
Many storage companies (more than 40% are still hiring) but it may not be for entry level openings. Mid level,higher management is whats being hired right now. But give a good fight & u may get ur shot.
Several openings starting from consultant, support engineer,L2/L3, Developer, Quality, Implementation,Pre Sales lots of options are there.But check out your city specific job portal for the latest info. As far as I got the info through out US though there is a slump Storage pros are still in demand (those who have good years of experience & expertise).

2. How much is being paid? What is the pay package?

Will take a day to update on this since Im waiting for some inputs.

3. How are the interview process in these Storage Companies?
Expect & be ready for several technical interview rounds. Manager/ above rounds are nothing compared to the kind of bashing you'll recieve at tech rounds. So prepare well. Nothing to fear they treat you nice & gentle. But they want you to give the expected solutions/answers.

Dont expect any company hiring for not less than 3 tech rounds. Some companies do 7 rounds or more. Its a norm ,dont panic or act wierd when they ask you to wait a whole day before calling for a 40 min tech discussion.

Ten Strong tips to make you Get Job SOONER , ASAP
1. Write down what you want from the next job

2. Write down what salary you expect, what position you expect , Which companies you wanna join.
One of my blog reader wrote like : Salary expected $6500 per month, Position : Virtualization Consultant/Deployment/Planning/Support/Training . Companies he'd love to join : All Top 10 of Fortune 100 companies.

Next thing I ask you to do is, be frank & think practically about this next step.

3. If you really want so many good things for yourself just to get into this new job - How are you equally worthy for that job?????
How competentent are you to demand such salary?
How skilled,experienced,able are you to demand such position
How valuable you yourself are to be choosy of such high expectations/Company?

If you are not already worthy CAN not you work towards the goal to make yourself come upto the expectations of the job. (Ya ya you want them to meet your expectations before you even think of knowing their expectations)
Step 3 is all about understanding the job opening's expectations & make yourself reach to that level

4. Next step - Start developing your Resume/Curriculum Vitae (CV). This is the step every one drags/delays/wants to postpone

5. Make sure you are really good on everything mentioned in the CV/Resume.If not already start building yourself in that direction.

6. Upload the resume/ spread the word/ Network among people who are already in these major companies & ask them to refer you for any open reqs ( Job openings) . Build relation with job consultants/ hiring network / People who can really help you reach out (Like This Blog)

7. Be ready for taking an interview at any time & for any number of interview rounds/stages. There are companies who are in a hurry to hire, there are companies which take months to complete the hiring process, there are companies who never give you clear idea, there are companies who may finish all interview process & give you the offer letter IN A SINGLE DAY - Be ready & Open for every thing. ( Be ready to get bashed in all directions, on all topics you mentioned in your resume )

8. Know how to get Interview Calls if you are Not getting any

9. Give Mock Interview (Simulated Interview) to a friend or old colleague or any one who has the patience to take a technical mock interview for you. Go through a lot, lots of mock interviews. So you know where you suck & where you shine. Improve yourself in all those lacking else you have a long way to go.

10. Start attending the real interviews................ Have patience.

Getting a Job,Clearing all rounds of Job Interview is like marriage have patience till it happens. & Once it happens, once you are in the job you will be wishing when you can have your next marriage :)

I'm sorry this is the reality people feel preparing for an interview is a pain in the *** . So they just dont want to do it. From my experience what I've seen is lotsa people just wanna avoid interview they'll be glad to jump the bus if they were hired without an interview. O dreamy fellow ...dreams cant get ur bread n butter so stop dreaming & do the necessary preps.

So this simple flow chart or Road Map was prepared to help people follow a structure , discipline their preparation & help them achieve better results. Readers frequently ask me if I get a training in Storage or Virtualization can I get a job faster. My reply - The faster you meet the Interviewer's expectations sooner you get that Job. Sometimes I also may say "Have you looked into the Job descriptions check out some on Storage Job Openings website. The faster someone meets the expectations of a Job opening or what is explained in Job description for that Job opening - sooner the candidate gets hired. If your training helps you to reach this expectation then YES Training indeed helps you get these jobs.

Please understand this its not a question having a simple YES or NO answer.

Did good amount of lab exercises
Worked on POC (Proof Of Concept) Projects or Internal implementation projects
They worked & put their effort to learn more about the technology
They persisted in their effort to meet the expectations of the industry/ job description
Did take quite a lot of mock interview prior to facing real interviewer

When they got job its not just that one training but the combined effort that helped them to Get that good paying job. So if you are lazy & looking for a quick success then training in Storage or Virtualization may not be the exact thing you need to search for. But I would say the effort or hard work you put will be worth it & you will rewarded richly if you persist in your efforts.

So get trained but be prepared to work more even after the training finishes, if you wanna build an exponential growth career in Storage or Virtualisation domains.

Vmware Interview Questions helped get Storage Job is'nt this strange

One of the blog reader wrote to say that he got Storage Job in IBM because he was able to answer most of the Vmware Interview Questions. Ya I too got confused just like you. The job opening was for Storage & Virtualization administrator. But later they made it as 2 job openings.They wanted to hire a separate Storage administrator but expected him to have good knowledge of Virtualization, specifically Vmware VI3 ( Vmware Infrastructure 3). This blog reader had experience working on Storage for several years. But he was not well experienced on VI3 - ESX Server , Virtual Center etc.

He was aware of ESX Server & Virtual machines just that he had not worked extensively on ESX administration. So just 2 days before the actual interview he bought my 100 Interview Questions package ($100 - check top right corner) . I never recommend doing this way. Do NOT buy just few days before interview. I even get people buying just a couple hours before the interview. Thats crazy - there are very few chances that the same questions may be asked. But still people have confidence that if they can have this for reference & use it for a mock interview session that has indeed helped quite a few. Thats why people never complain & email me back.

Anyway I'm happy this package helps people in one or the other way to get good jobs. I'm not claiming my questions were solely responsible for him to get this job. Without the kind of Interview preparation or Experience in a solid technology like FC Switches or SAN he could not have got this job offer.

I never recommend you buy my Vmware Interview Questions package & just prepare on it(escape route actually) thats not at all gonna get you the job. You may be lucky but thats another story.What I would recommend instead is start your interview preparation quite few days earlier. Most of the job consultants do give that much time,a week or two for you to attend interview. If you have so many days start your actual preparation

1. Preparing your resume
2. Properly projecting your experience, projects , skillset
3. Being able to clearly explain your roles / responsibilities
4. Initiatives you took, team leadership you've shown
5. Excellence in a skillset or administration or a programming etc
6. Your ability to solve things or troubleshooting expertise etc

when you are preparing on all these aspects & say you are a Storage administrator or say you are a VI3 admin (ESX administrator/VC admin) then you need to cover some of the basics about the technology. That time you need to cover some of their product documentation or User guides. That time for reference you can use my 100 Interview Questions documents,only for reference or for a mock interview with the help of a friend. By going through a mock interview you are mentally perpared for what kind of questions or twisted scenario based questions can be expected.You increase the quality of the answers you give for an interviewer. You handle the interview in a much more confident manner. You feel that you are in control of the whole technical interview round. These feelings you can NOT get if you have not faced a MOCK INTERVIEW prior to your actual interview. So dont skip this suggestion.

I would again repeat DO NOT buy if u have an interview just in next 2 hours. (This is what quite a few did in the past). I dont feel happy when this package has less value to you.

Reason I'm saying this 'cause lots of my site visitors either search for "Vmware interview questions" or email me asking for that. Processes and threads - basic concepts, differences between them, fork/exec working, Copy on write.Copy-on-write (sometimes referred to as "COW") is an optimization strategy used in computer programming. The fundamental idea is that if multiple callers ask for resources which are initially indistinguishable, you can give them pointers to the same resource. This function can be maintained until a caller tries to modify its "copy" of the resource, at which point a true private copy is created to prevent the changes becoming visible to everyone else. Other concepts you can read up on based on your expected job profile and background - DMA, x86 architecure, x86 programming, Caching and cache coherency concepts, Specific file systems internals like ext3, reiserfs, ufs etc, distributed computing and clustering concepts

DMA: is a feature of modern computers that allows certain hardware subsystems within the computer to access system memory for reading and/or writing independently of the central processing unit. Many hardware systems use DMA including disk drive controllers, graphics cards, network cards, and sound cards. Computers that have DMA channels can transfer data to and from devices with much less CPU overhead than computers without a DMA channel.

Without DMA, using programmed input/output (PIO) mode, the CPU is typically fully occupied for the entire duration of the read or write operation and is thus unavailable to perform other work. With DMA, the CPU would initiate the transfer, do other operations while the transfer is in progress, and receive an interrupt from the DMA controller once the operation has been done. This is especially useful in real-time computing applications where not stalling behind concurrent operations is critical.

I was happy to recieve an email today from one of my blog reader that he got a job offer letter from Accenture on Vmware virtualization technology. He wrote to thank me for the guidance I gave him prior to his interviews.

I'm copying few lines from his email here::

"Overcoming fear of interviews is the first factor to success. We can overcome interview fears only when we are strong in the technology. Though I had been working on some specific segment of Vmware Infrastructure 3 I was not having a strong base in VI3. Also I never got time to cover other solid features of VI3. This was the reason why I always feared taking interviews. Though I had posted my resume online on various job portals & I was getting lots of interview calls from job consultants, I feared taking interviews.

This fear was mainly due to lack of preparation.I was fearing failure & I was fearing facing some body who'll grill me for hours to know what am I worthy of. I hated answering those questions like : Why should we hire you?
Why are you leaving your present job?
What are your weakness ?

Many a times thinking about explaining for the usual questions like : Tell me about yourself ? used to make me think that I need more time to prepare. I was confused should I perfect my technical skills or should I focus on how I present myself in interview. There were tons of worries troubling me & making me awake many a nights like:
Should I continue in VI3 administration role

I was able to overcome my fear of facing somebody. Since I wrote my answers I got more confidence. Then i took some more time to prepare. I polished my expertise in VI3 configuration, deployment, troubleshooting. Also thanks for the list of tips you emailed me for VI3 related interview preparation. It did help to some extent. I was able to give all 6 rounds of interview at Accenture & I'm happy to say now that they've offered me a good job with a good pay.

Its sheer ability to pour out some of the most brilliant ideas and schemes ( lets not dwell on the thoughts about the nobility of these ideas) Well amidst all this I had a idea that struck me and that was to pen these desolate thoughts of mine.
When it comes to striking a goldmine of thoughts ,when it comes to that very important idea we are looking for , I realized that we seem to get it in the most strangest of the places. Different people have different approaches to attain their very enlightenment. Its not unusual that Some GET it while traveling, some in their sleep and I get (believe or not)in the Loo.
Yes that's true ,throughout my life whenever I an shot of ideas to solve a problem it was the Loo that offered the trigger. I don't understand why destiny chose such an unlikely spot but perhaps for the privacy and probably the relief it offers(pun intended)……
I remember scheming my most brilliant moves against my enemies from within the walls of the LOO…Those ideas that made them look like Morons. Even the most formidable of the problems had a n answer o it. Either fix it or find a work around until you find a permanent fix. To be able to solve literally any problem one needs to have his options open …and to have multiple options in the first place is a bliss. My dad always says," Look around with a clear mind and you will find your solutions lying around you, probably in the trash can".
We have a mind with a ability to think @ the speed of light if I may say so..Now only if that speed could be channelised in the right direction else we risk the chances to be more confused than before. WE are all programmed I such a way that every time a problem crops up, we run the "Fight or flight" process.
I belong to the flight club as may be the case a with a lot of you guys. I always considered that by dodging the problem at the moment, I could recollect myself and then take on the fight( which seemingly never happens).Postponement leads to only on thing -postponement and with the asking rate going skywards only till the doomsday arrived.
So what's the solution / why is it that way? I looked for the answer everywhere (literally everywhere) and couldn't find it……….., only to realise that it was within me..I had not looked into myself. Rather went on a futile hunt in places where there was just dismal emptiness.

But an idea or a thought just doesn't happen always , there is always a trigger. A memory perhaps. The mind holds a huge bouquet of memories which smell the most beautiful and yet sting like thorns. The most ironic fact about memories is that they are not our slaves. They happen all the time and are out of our control. One of the most ironic fact about memories is that we seem to remember even the details of a bad memory and we have faded memories of any good time that we may have had. Ironic indeed ! ! !
As John Milton says,
"The mind is its own place, and in itself
Can make a Heav'n of Hell, a Hell of Heav'n"

MY MIND IS CHURNING OUT WITH A LOT OF THOUGHTS RIGHT NOW. Well that's what I have drilling with you with .so let me get on with it.

Dreams is something which everyone is fond of. Whether we like to accept or not, everyone dreams. Dreams where we want to be powerful, to be rich , to be something where we are recognized, to be identified. How many of us dream to be in control of things, control of people and in broad terms to be in control of life...hmmmm control of life only if were to be true.

We all dream to a large extent about the good things in life...,materialistic mostly. Most of us dream with closed eyes or some even with eyes wide open. Daydreaming is something we all do. To be lost in the wilderness of our fantasyland where there are no blockades, nothing to stop us from achieving anything we want...(Nay..im not talking Alice in Wonderland...But you must agree that Lewis Carol had stuck what I called a Goldmine of thoughts)

I had considered my life a lost game. Everything sucked only until I started Daydreaming. Now here was something just like some quick relief drug. I could go to any depths ad have that unfathomable pleasure it gave me. I was the superstar who could act in a movie, play along with sachin,beat the FedEx at his game and do a somersault ala Ronaldinho at the goalpost.
The soldier saving the nymph with ethereal quality, the Greek God swaying with young nubile... I go on and on but for the fear of that doomsday thought somehow pierced my mind right now.

We are left exhilarated with the experience, with that on the Top of the world feeling. Amazing thing isn't it? I knew of a guy who achievement had been pretty much limited to swatting mosquitoes. But once after he had read the "The Godfather". his behavior changed probably triggered by the dream that he could be all that powerful as the Don. But his dreams had given him that confidence though its usage remained pretty mysterious.
Its quite intriguing to know how the mind works and plays games with us. Wish I could record it and play it all over again and again in a player, but that would take away the very essence out of it.
    So the best thing is to keep on dreaming, `cos it is dreams that no one can steal. It is your kingdom and nothing in the world can come in between. Keep Dreaming.

    As D.H.Lawrence said

"All people dream, but not equally.
Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their mind,
Wake in the morning to find that it was vanity.

Network Attached Storage (NAS)
Unlike SANs that utilize a network of Fibre Channel switches, most NAS connections reside between workstation clients and the NAS file-sharing facility. These connections rely on the underlying corporate network infrastructure to function properly, which can lead to network congestion, particularly for larger data transfers. NAS solutions are typically configured as file-serving appliances accessed by workstations and servers through a network protocol such as TCP/IP and applications such as Network File System (NFS) or Common Internet File System (CIFS) for file access.

NAS storage scalability is often limited by the size of the self-contained NAS appliance enclosure. Adding another appliance is relatively easy, but sharing the combined contents is not. Because of these constraints, data backups in NAS environments typically are not centralized, and therefore are limited to direct attached devices (such as dedicated tape drives or libraries) or a network-based strategy where the appliance data is backed up to facilities over a corporate or dedicated LAN. Increasingly, NAS appliances are using SANs to solve problems associated with storage expansion, as well as data backup and recovery.

* The VirtualCenter Server is supported as a service on the 32 bit versions of these operating systems :

Virtual Center 2.0 installation is not supported on 64 bit operating systems.

* Fibre Channel adapters supported are Emulex and QLogic host bus adapters (HBAs).
A SCSI disk, Fibre Channel LUN, or RAID LUN with un partitioned space. In a minimum configuration, this disk or RAID is shared between the service console and the virtual machines.

9. Which Storage systems supports for installing and booting ESX Server ?
* ESX Server supports installing and booting from the following storage systems:
IDE/ATA disk drives Installing ESX Server on an IDE/ATA drive or IDE/ATA
RAID is supported. However, you should ensure that your specific drive controller is included in the supported hardware.
Storage of virtual machines is currently not supported on IDE/ATA drives or RAIDs. Virtual machines must be stored on VMFS partitions configured on a SCSI drive, a SCSI RAID, or a SAN.
SCSI disk drives . SCSI disk drives are supported for installing ESX Server. They can also store virtual machines on VMFS partitions.
Storage area networks (SANs) . SANs are supported for installing ESX Server. They can also store virtual machines on VMFS partitions.

10. Enhanced Performance Recommendations for ESX Server
* Some recommendations for enhanced performance:

RAM : Having sufficient RAM for all your virtual machines is important to
achieving good performance. ESX Server hosts require more RAM than typical
Servers : An ESX Server host must be equipped with sufficient RAM to run
concurrent virtual machines, plus run the service console.

Dedicated fast Ethernet adapters for virtual machines : Dedicated Gigabit Ethernet cards for virtual machines, such as Intel PRO/1000 adapters,iimprove throughput to virtual machines with high network traffic.

Disk location . For best performance, all data used by your virtual machines should be on physical disks allocated to virtual machines. These physical disks should be large enough to hold disk images to be used by all the virtual machines.

VMFS3 partitioning . For best performance, use VI Client or VI Web Access to set up your VMFS3 partitions rather than the ESX Server installer. Using VI Client or VI Web Access ensures that the starting sectors of partitions are 64K aligned, which improves storage performance.

Processors . Faster processors improve ESX Server performance. For certain workloads, larger caches improve ESX Server performance.

Hardware compatibility . To ensure the best possible I/O performance and workload management, VMware ESX Server provides its own drivers for supported devices. Be sure that the devices you plan to use in your server are supported.

You basically need someone who is more than a good friend.

4.Stick to the goal & be very positive : Results will not happen in a day. So you need to have consistency in your efforts. If I say read all 100+ posts on this blog & you will get a job for sure - how many of this blog's readers will try that. I am sure not even 1 person can have the patience to read all 100+ posts on this blog. But to my amazement a guy from Japan has gone through all the posts on this blog & taken print out made it as a small reference book. He emailed me yesterday saying that he got a nice job since he used this blog as his support system. Yes for him this blog served the purpose of being more than a friend. I am glad someone made a very positive use of the amount of knowledge available on this blog.

It is really a nice milestone for me as an author of this blog to complete. I love to share stories that too stories which can inspire others. So let me share a little story (history) about this blog.(You will not find any personal info about me though- I am sorry but I like to remain at the background & let this blog do its work better).

This blog was started in 2006 August 25th with the intention of helping people get better career guidance in Information Technology. If you are a new visitor to this blog & if you are not sure what Storage or SAN is all about then we are talking about Computer Data Storage & How real big enterprises manage or store data .

Even today when I talk to many Storage company teams they are expressing that there is a huge number of job openings for storage professionals.
